Christ the King Jesuit College Preparatory School, Chapel of Saint Ignatius of Loyola

This new building in the Austin neighborhood is the first new Catholic high school built on the west side of Chicago in 85 years. The 3-story, 100,000-square-foot building includes classrooms, a cafeteria, a gymnasium, offices, and a chapel. Threshold was involved with the interior acoustics of the academic, athletic, and worship spaces as well as the AV systems throughout.

The chapel holds 200 students and staff for special masses, religious education, and other events. Three sides of the room are glazed, and a three-story light well brings light from the roof as well. The seating is arranged to take advantage of the light well with the choir singing into the full reverberant volume.
