Lewis & Clark College, Flanagan Agnes Chapel

While Lewis & Clark College plans a substantial expansion of its performing arts buildings, its landmark chapel currently serves as the college's largest performance space. The chapel's conical timber ceiling and monumental Cassavant organ suspended from the roof structure in the center of the room conspire against a clear, present, and balanced sound from the chancel. For the chapel to better serve as an interim performance space, the college sought a gentle renovation of the room that preserves its present acoustic character while improving intelligibility, clarity, and the overall musicality of the chapel for workshop as well as performance.
