Ford Calumet Environmental Center
LEED Platinum aspirations merit a fresh look at the materials on hand. Scrap steel and rebar on this post-industrial wetland will become columns for the building and lattice to warn migratory birds away from the windows. Inside, materials not normally considered "acoustic" – glass, drywall, and wood veneer – attenuate sound between rooms that are naturally ventilated and open to each other. Subtle audio will support presentation of the region's history and the Center's ongoing research. This project is awaiting funding.
