The University of Michigan, Hill Auditorium

Designed as an enormous architectural amplifier, the 4,000-seat auditorium became an offbeat favorite of audiences and a "who's who" list of performers. By respecting the core of what made the auditorium so well loved, the renovation honored the famed Hill acoustics while reducing mechanical noise, isolating it from external distraction, and improving stage conditions. The result was a warming of its tone, giving the renovated organ, in particular, a rich, new voice.
