Finding the Heart of a Project
Barbican Concert Hall, The Barbican Centre, London England
Carl Giegold currently as Principal for Threshold Acoustics
and formerly as Senior Consultant for Kirkegaard Associates

With its unusual octagonal plan and heroic structure, Barbican Concert Hall could not succeed
acoustically by the traditional rules. The approach, instead, was to build upon the hall's strengths,
which lay in clarity, presence, and impact rather than reverberance. A new, metal-clad ceiling and canopy system yields lauded acoustic gains while also expanding the technical capabilities of the hall.
