A tiny 19th Century granite quarry has been fitted with a small performance platform and shell to support un-amplified music in the forest by ensembles of up to 6 for audiences of up to 30.
Sculptural mahogany will be used for the platform and shell and will work with the ruins of quarry
walls and
the forest canopy to develop supportive natural acoustics for private performances. The
shell treads
very lightly on the quarry floor and will be demountable, allowing the venue to fade back into the
woods
at some point in the future.
A granite outcrop, a small quarry, and the forest canopy almost form a recital room on their own –
very little help was required. A quiet mahogany wall and platform define the setting as a place
for performance and gently lift the music above the sounds of the forest. It treads very lightly on
the quarry floor and is demountable, so the venue reverts to forest for winter.
