This 2,500 seat auditorium has a soaring scale surprising for its small-town presence. Designed as a
venue for presentations of amplified music, the venue was equipped with two different electronic enhancement systems, but neither achieved the original goal of providing satisfying acoustics for unamplified performances. A 2002 renovation replaced the orchestra shell
with one more massive to improve bass response and taller to take advantage of the
full height of the proscenium. A new ACS enhancement system adds reverberation and simulated
reflections, which the architecture cannot provide, to enhance intimacy and presence and to
enrich the environment on the stage. The increased power of the unamplified ensembles
from the more supportive shell feeds the enhancement system.
The Eugene Symphony can now be heard in ways that do greater justice to their musicianship, and
allow
the audience to hear them with a new appreciation.
