TimeLine has worked to become one of Chicago’s leading cultural institutions from the moment six founders pitched in $50 each to launch a theater that is about more than the show. The theatre company presents stories inspired by history that connect with today’s social and political issues. The mission extends well beyond the stage, encompassing meticulously researched and interactive lobby experiences, opportunities to discuss the show with artists, and ways to take action on the inspired subjects.

The Audio/Video experience supports this mission with immersive audio/video elements will provide context, information, storytelling, and performance elements before the audience enters the theatre. Due to the variation in possible lobby display configuration, flexible equipment design was vital. Threshold worked with the client and HGA to design zoning and isolation of audio elements to reduce competition between audio playback materials - including the digital signage displaces, paging, and presentation equipment.

Inside the two dedicated theatres, spaces are designed with emphasis on speech intelligibility to support the performers, provide acoustic intimacy, and control of the stage volume to avoid excessive reverberance. The theatre also serves as a space for the community and the occasional presentation also fully supports the connection between artist and audience.
