New York's LGBTQ congregation embraces all who enter, and does so with song, sincerity, and a reverence for the traditions of the Jewish faith and culture. The entrance sequence protects the sanctuary from the bustle of community users in the rest of the facility as well as from the busy New York street outside, a location that is very close to a primary dispatch location for New York City's finest. The sanctuary envelopes CBST's exuberant services in a low volume without putting a lid on the musical expression. A sloping, deeply textured, massive concrete wall, delicately lit by a skylight into the alley behind the building, provides support of the deepest notes of the Steinway while softening what would otherwise be a rigid rectangular geometry.
