The Poetry Foundation, publisher of Poetry magazine, has a new headquarters building in Chicago that houses its curatorial, publishing, and other staff, as well as an extensive library. It boasts a 125-seat reading room with superb acoustics for speech and sufficient flexibility to serve as a banquet and seminar room as well as a speech-oriented recording studio. Threshold worked with John Ronan Architects to ensure that the primary architectural and organizational element, a continuous bank of bookshelves that winds through the entire project, would also serve as a device for controlling the acoustics of the open office areas.
